The Stances

Stance Description
Feet are generally flat on the floor, with the weight equally distributed
Some stances have left and right versions. In these stances one foot is one step in front of the other. The left or right version refers to the leading foot
Eagle stanceEagle Heels are together. Toes are pointed slightly out
Bear stanceBear Feet are parallel and placed hip width apart
Dragon stanceDragon Left and Right versions. The forward leg is bent and back leg is straight
Monkey stanceMonkey Left and Right versions. The front leg is straight with the heel on the ground and the ball of the foot raised. The back leg is bent
Riding Horse stanceRiding Horse Feet are parallel, slightly wider than hip width apart. Knees are bent and pushed out to the side
Leopard stanceLeopard Left and Right versions.Feet are parallel, slightly wider than hip width apart. One knee is bent and the other leg is straight
Duck stanceDuck Left and Right versions.The front leg is straight with the foot flat on the ground. The back leg is bent
Cat stanceCat Left and Right versions.The front leg is bent with just the toes touching the ground. The back leg is straight
Crane stanceCrane Left and Right versions.The front leg is raised so that the top of the thigh is parallel to the ground. The lower part of the leg is perpendicular. The back leg is straight
Snake stanceSnake Both legs are slightly bent with the weight centrally between the two feet
Dog stanceDog Left and Right versions.The front leg is raised in a straight line as high as possible. The back leg is straight
Scissors stanceScissors Legs are bent with knee of rear leg tucked in behind knee of front leg
Crossed Leg stanceCrossed Leg Right leg is crossed in front of left leg. Only the edge of the right foot is on the ground
